A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. DOROTHY KNIGHT FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JEFFERSON DAVIS CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

WHEREAS, Ms. Dorothy Knight, a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of her teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Knight, a language arts instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 21 years; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Knight earned an associate's degree from the Coahoma Community College, a bachelor's degree from Jackson State University and a master's degree from William Carey College in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Knight serves as the presider and recorder for the Southeastern Conference on English in the Two-Year College, is a member of the Gulfport Good Deeds Association and an associate member of the Gulf Coast Blues Commission; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Ms. Dorothy Knight, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Dorothy Knight for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes of success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Dorothy Knight and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
